From Miss California to sought-after denim industry fit model to founder of her very own premium denim line, when Paige Adams-Geller talks about jeans, it’s worth taking note. Companies are increasingly looking for new ways to add sustainability into the products they make, and the latest trend among denim players seems to be making cotton-free denim. For Turkish textile manufacturer ISKO, responsibility has driven much of what the company does with its denim—and that’s what led to its latest innovation, ‘Cottonized’.
“Cotton has always been the principal fiber in denim fabric, but ISKO has continued to push the boundaries of denim construction, researching new and novel fibers. ISKO Cottonized™ employs LENZING™ Lyocell, LENZING™ Modal, and other fiber blends to produce denim fabric with a look, drape, and wash-down unlike any other denim, but without using cotton,” the company said in a statement.
Now more than ever, the world is paying attention to how the fashion industry impacts the environment. In a new United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) video called “Made in Forests,” Michelle Yeoh, a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador set out to see what sustainable fashion could look like without comprising clothing’s beauty.
With Dish & DUER, denim does more. The idea for the brand, is to make clothes for “doers” so they can do the things that life demands. The company started making its Performance Denim and No Sweat fabrications in Pakistan, buying a small denim factory there to maintain the ethical standards it intends to live by in its business. Dish & DUER then expanded to a factory in Shanghai, China, where it continues to keep its high standards for clean, compliant workplaces where staff are treated fairly.
