The Circle Book: Culture.In

Collaboration and circularity are the next frontier in textile and fashion transformation. By working together, sharing ideas and vision, in 2020 we first created the lookbook and design tool called THE CIRCLE BOOK from the ACT TOGETHER partnership between TENCEL™, Meidea and Officina+39. Transparency is the foundation of the entire project, starting from creative ideation, to fibers and fabrics, forward to finishing and onto final garments. We aim, through our actions, to trace a new path in education for future generations of mindful designers.

How TENCEL™ Helps Bella Dahl Deliver Eco-Friendly Fashion

For Los Angeles-based womenswear brand Bella Dahl, the pandemic’s shift toward casual dressing has played into its wheelhouse. The brand has long been making easy, beachy attire such as joggers and relaxed dresses. “We disrupted things by doing, we called it the Californiacation of fashion, or this casualization of fashion, where we were already offering comfort from the beginning,” said Steven Millman, the brand’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, during a conversation with Edward Hertzman, founder and president of Sourcing Journal.

Traditionally, the fashion industry has been all about take, make, waste. Take resources, make a garment and then create waste—both during the production process and after the consumer discards the item. For an alternative, fashion can look to the natural world for inspiration. Plants and animals have systems that inherently prevent waste. While it may not be as innate for manmade industries to do the same, creating more circular paths for garments can lessen waste and the overall footprint of the fashion industry.

Our TENCEL™ Modal with Indigo Color technology fibers offer an alternative to the resource-heavy process typically used to achieve the blue denim look….Italian textile chemistry firm Officina+39 has been trialing treatments for TENCEL™ Modal with Indigo Color technology. These finishing processes continue the sustainable footprint of the fibers by prioritizing chemical safety and reduced resource usage.
