Along with standalone videos, we have created playlists that dig deeper into topics. Our Think Tank webinar series brings together individuals in the denim world for discussions about their corner of the industry. Come here to catch the full Transformers Ed event and Sue Barrett’s Lockdown Nostalgia Project: six pandemic-era short films asking individuals about the garments they’ve rediscovered courtesy of more time spent at home.
After more than a century in operation, White Oak closed its doors in 2017. This marked the end of an era, since at the time it was the last remaining denim mill within the U.S. Bob Stec, chairman of White Oak Legacy Foundation, spoke with Carved in Blue about the history of American denim and the organization’s work to preserve yet modernize authentic selvedge jeans.
Transformers Foundation interviewed Lenzing’s Michael Kininmonth and Tricia Carey for its Meet the Founders series. Here is an excerpt from the conversation: Our core business is fiber manufacturing. We transform the cellulose from trees, a renewable resource, into TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers, which are used by leading mills and brands around the world. We pursue to lower our environmental footprint with our fiber innovations. Specifically to the TENCEL™ Denim team we have decades of market experience and continue to challenge the status quo through our collaborations to commercialize change.
Lenzing’s Bast Recast collection would not have been possible without collaboration. When we set out to create designs using hemp mixed with TENCEL™ Lyocell, the project relied on the expertise and vision of partners—from mills to marketing… After the collection was complete, we turned to Nick Clements to capture the garments on camera. Nick is a seasoned fashion photographer and the editor-in-chief of Men’s File magazine, which covers everything from style to cars, architecture, art and more.
The people who devote their careers to the denim industry develop a special connection to the material. And once a blue blood, always a blue blood. In the latest episode of our Blue Cast podcast, Lenzing’s Tricia Carey chatted with Tom Leonard, the former senior vice president of global sales for Cone Denim. Freshly retired, Tom reflected on his career and how he has seen denim evolve over his four decades in the business.
