Blue Cast: Scott Morrison on His Swing Toward Golf Wear

For designer Scott Morrison, golf was his entry point into an interest in apparel. And now his story with fashion and the sport has come full circle. In the latest episode of our Blue Cast podcast, Lenzing’s Tricia Carey caught up with the “serial brand builder.” After numerous ventures in denim—most recently the bespoke label 3×1—the entrepreneur has shifted gears to the sports world with a new golf attire brand.

Ian Berry Exhibit Gets Extended Post-Lockdown Run

This past year, everyone has spent more time alone huddled in their homes. For U.K.-based artist Ian Berry, this sheltering in place has become inspiration for pieces that capture the Covid experience. Ian, whose chosen medium is denim, is used to creating “blue” art. But his usual subject matter of isolation took on a different meaning as seclusion became a shared global experience. “My work’s always been about isolation,” said Ian. “This year it became something quite different.”

TENCEL™: A Thread That Unites Generations, Denim Innovation and Vision of the Future

It was 1994 and Lucia Rosin was working with a new and innovative fiber called TENCEL™ to include it in the Benetton collection. After having faced and solved some problems in washing and fibrillation and having chosen the best manufacturing technique, the “Blue Family” product officially entered the Spring/Summer 1995 collection. Light, soft and breathable trousers, perfect for the heat of summer or to wear as Lucia did for a vacation in Mexico. The beauty of this story is to meet with Michelle Branch, a friend and professional in the field of denim consultancy and discover, after more than 25 years, that at the same time as Lucia’s experimentation in Italy with TENCEL™, she too was developing a product “TENCEL™ made” for Levi’s called “Silver Tab.”

Bast Recast Deep-Dive: French Work Pant 1890

This is a garment style from the 1890s, which, like many from that period, is quite oversized compared to modern day garments. So much so that the models in our photoshoot described them as clown pants. Garments from this period tended to be bigger, although it is not clear why this is. However, it is thought that it was for either ease of movement and/or layering with other garments, especially for warmth in the winter.

TENCEL™ Denim Mill Update: Brazil

To see the versatility and value proposition of TENCEL™ fibers, look no further than the denim world. Mills are leveraging the wood-based fibers to create jean materials that are soft yet strong, with a lower impact. TENCEL™ Lyocell is made from trees using a closed-loop process that captures and reuses 99 percent of solvents and water used. In addition to the eco-friendly production behind TENCEL™ Lyocell, our REFIBRA™ technology enables circularity by replacing a portion of inputs with chemically recycled cotton waste. Carved in Blue caught up with mills in Brazil to hear how they are using TENCEL™ and TENCEL™ x REFIBRA™ in their collections. More from Canatiba Denim and Vicunha below.
