When certain forces align in just the right way, it’s a recipe for success. And that’s what Artistic Fabric Mills seems to have going with its all in the family operation. Three sisters, Farah Iqbal, Saba Iqbal and Haya Iqbal Ahmed, are some of the driving female energies helping fuel the business, and each brings their own unique skillset to elevate the manufacturer’s offering. Here, Carved in Blue catches up with the sisters to get an inside look at the inner-workers of a well-oiled family operation.

As the fourth generation of his family’s denim mill, Candiani might have a better grasp on denim’s heritage than perhaps any other denimhead alive. It would be easy for a person in his position to become complacent, but it’s the evolution of denim that really keeps him going.
We’re making old cotton new again. In a world where we’re using too much and replenishing too little, it’s critical to find ways to upcycle, repurpose and lessen impact. And that was the key concept behind TENCEL™ x REFIBRA™. Here’s a look at how we’re making new fibers from discarded materials.
With tradeshows on hold, Carved in Blue is putting its capsule collection out one digital post at a time. This week, we’re highlighting the Carved in Blue® CHORE JACKET. The chore coat first appeared in late nineteenth century France. As a piece of outerwear made from durable cotton drill or moleskin, the chore coat was perfect for the tough physical work of laborers, railroad workers, and farmers, thanks to its loose fit that made it easy to throw over a set of overalls. In addition to being a hardy external layer, the roomy pockets were used to store everything a worker would need from tobacco tins to tools, and the button cuffs made for easy sleeve-rolling.
The world may is facing a clean water crisis and the denim industry seems determined on doing its part to help. That’s why we’re continuing our SDG Decoded series, in which we tap the denim industry to see how they’re tackling the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with another installation of what companies are doing to tackle SDG #6. Check out what Cone Denim, Jeanologia and Candiani are doing to advance SDG #6, and click here to find the first segment for this crucial goal.
